SAB launches start-up bootcamp targeting young entrepreneurs in Limpopo

Startup Bootcamp SAB KickStartSAB will run an innovative entrepreneurship development workshop in the Polokwane area over three days from 23 to 25 July 2014.

Startup Bootcamp

Startup Bootcamp, a pilot programme of SAB KickStart, SAB’s youth entrepreneurship development programme, will target approximately 50 entrepreneurs based across Limpopo. They should be between the ages of 18 and 35 with an innovative business idea or early start-up not more than 6 months in operation and who are looking to acquire tools to improve their concepts and operations.

Other criteria include being willing to invest time and effort to develop and grow the idea and individuals should display passion. Those meeting the criteria should email kickstart@za.sabmiller.com before 11 July 2014 and if successful, will be invited to attend a pitching process to take place on Wednesday, 23 July where the final Startup Bootcamp participants will be chosen.

SAB, through its rigorous commitment to development and support of sustainable and high impact youth entrepreneurship, will use the Startup Bootcamp to help fill a critical gap in the entrepreneurship support ecosystem, namely the lack of support for the origination and growth of ideas. Furthermore, SAB recognises that relevant and innovative business development support is difficult to access, especially by youth in rural areas.

SAB Enterprise Development and Community Partnerships head Boipelo Nkadimeng says: “This is an exciting venture for us as we extend our objective through SAB KickStart of growing a culture of entrepreneurship across the country. It further allows us to build a strong and quality pipeline for our main programme, which aims to develop high impact youth owned businesses capable of making a sustainable contribution to job creation.

“As SAB, we hope the young people of Limpopo will take advantage of this opportunity to equip themselves with the appropriate business skills, ” she says.

Over the three day bootcamp, participating entrepreneurs will be provided free of charge with, amongst others, pitching opportunities, collaborative business mentoring, training and networking support. The programme content includes general business management, sales and marketing, innovation and entrepreneurship and looking at the business model canvas.

The interactive programme will be presented by a host of business experts and guest speakers.

The final day of the bootcamp will see the launch of #THUDPlk – The Hookup Dinner Polokwane where between 5 and 7 of the participating entrepreneurs will be provided an opportunity to pitch their business idea.

The Hookup Dinner is a national entrepreneur networking session allowing young entrepreneurs the opportunity to meet and potentially work with likeminded individuals.
