SAB LAUNCHES FIFTH SEASON OF YOUTH REALITY SERIES, FUTURE LEADERS

Johannesburg. 25 October 2017. Popular reality television series Future Leaders, which follows the lives of six South African youths tackling issues of alcohol abuse and other related social problems, will broadcast its fifth season.

The 13-episode series documents the teenagers’ journeys to becoming positive role models and agents of change within their respective communities and among their peers.

The Future Leader contestants were selected after a search of schools around the country are Bandile Lungani Nyandeni of KwaZulu Natal, Karabo Mohapi of the Free State, Lebogang Makhosi of the North West, Msindisi Lizani of Gauteng; Nomthandazo Mashego of Mpumalanga and Sisipho Mngese of the Western Cape.

Each contestant will be guided through their Future Leaders journey by a dedicated mentor.

This season’s mentors are Phumlani Njilo, entrepreneur and founder of Induduzo Life; Thato Tsotetsi, also known as ‘Thaso’, founder and producer of record label Impact Sounds; Ligwalagwala FM presenter Nompumelelo Mbethe, best known to her listeners as ‘Mpumi’; Bongekile Radebe, an entrepreneur and business blogger; TV and radio personality Loyiso Mdebuka, also known as DJ Lloyd; and Monwabisi Bangiwe, also known as ‘Bisi’, a professional performing artist. 

“These youths have opened their lives up for the TV cameras and will share the details of their day-to-day lives with the audience, giving insight to the challenges faced by today’s teenagers and providing inspiration to others who might be experiencing similar problems,” said SAB Corporate Affairs Director Nirishi Trikamjee.

During the course of the series, each contestant must develop a community project within their community, which offers alternative recreation for the youth in these areas. Along the way, contestants are assisted in their mission by local personalities and local government officials.  

“Future Leaders is another example of an effective partnership between the public-private sector, where SAB has brought in many sectors of society to combat the problem of underage drinking,” said Trikamjee.

The new season will air on SABC 1 starting Tuesday, 31 October 2017 at 9pm
