SAB EMPLOYEES VOLUNTEER PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO LOCAL NGOs AND CHARITIES

Johannesburg. 4 April 2018. South African Breweries (SAB) employees from multiple business functions across the company will volunteer critical strategic and practical skills to four carefully selected NGOs based in Johannesburg to help address critical challenges faced by these organisations.

An estimated 100 employees will participate in an inaugural Pro-bono Marathon, this week, and volunteer their skills to help address strategic and programmatic challenges faced by NGOs and charities, which ordinarily they would not have access to due to shortfalls in funding and other resources. The volunteered skills are ultimately aimed at strengthening the capacity of each organisation.

Volunteered skills include:

  • Business solutions and innovation management
  • Strategy and planning
  • Marketing, PR and Communications
  • Human Resources; Learning and Development
  • Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Affairs management

“Our employees, from business strategists to Marketers and Innovators, will utilise their expertise, skills and passion to create meaning, value and real social impact for local charities serving marginalised communities in Johannesburg.

The four NGOs were selected from a list of 13 organisations shortlisted and identified as the most in need of strategic and practical assistance. The NGOs are:

  • Orange Babies South Africa/Mount Olive based in Johannesburg CBD is focused on HIV/Aids and youth development. They are looking to establish a sustainable programme of entrepreneurship development.
  • Character Company based on Kloofendal, Johannesburg, is focused on education and youth development and would like to expand their mentorship services across South Africa.
  • Hope Warriors Children’s Charity in Northern Pretoria would like to assist single parents in the community find employment by upskilling them.
  • Phakawani Young Minds Academy in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg focuses on remedial and after-school educational support. The organisation would like to develop strategies to help student adapt to new education curriculums, and reduce grade repetition. 

“The Pro-bono Marathon gives us an opportunity to demonstrate the SAB and AB InBev Dream to improve the lives of people living in communities in which we operate and to make a real positive difference in South African society,” says Nirishi Trikamjee, Corporate Affairs Director, SAB and AB InBev Africa.

The initiative aims to create sustained business and social impact for the selected organisations operating within SAB’s “Better World” framework.

The specific critical needs of and NGO is carefully matched with the skills on offer. The team of volunteers are presented with a business challenge faced by the organisation and are required to find the best and most feasible and viable solution. The solution that best fits the NGO is selected.

“The four local NGOs will receive approximately 50 hours of high impact management consultancy service and leave with one viable and innovative business solution proposal to help improve their organisational capacity and long-term efficacy,” says Trikamjee.
