SAB ANNOUNCES SPORTS MEDIA AWARDS 2013

The South African Breweries today announced the launch of its 33rd annual Sports Media Awards.

The awards, one of the most prestigious in the country,  are aimed at those members of the sporting media fraternity who have consistently delivered a high level of journalistic excellence over the past year across a variety of disciplines.

“Due to the huge popularity of sports in our country, the well-known personalities in the sports arena are not only those directly involved in a sport but also but those who report from the side-lines, ” says Robyn Chalmers, Head of Media and Communications for SAB. “These awards allow us to honour and thank those men and women of the media who help make those great sporting moments memorable, but also highlight new and burgeoning talent across the media landscape.”

Unlike previous years, all entries and judging will be now be electronic, courtesy of the SAB Sports Media Awards Portal on sabsportsmedia.co.za.

Each major category has a cash prize of R25, 000 with each sub-category winner receiving a cheque for R3, 000.

The SAB Sports Media Awards 2013 is divided into the following categories:

 

PRINT

o    Feature Writer of the Year

o    Columnist of the Year

o    News Reporter of the Year

o    Overall Winner: SAB Sports Media Award - Print

 

PHOTOGRAPHY

o    Action Shot of the Year

o    Overall Winner: SAB Sports Media Award – Photography

 

NEW MEDIA & ONLINE

o    Social Media Correspondent of the Year

o    Sports Blogger & Online Writer of the Year

 

RADIO

o    Sports News Reporter of the Year

o    Sports Commentator of the Year

o    Sports Presenter of the Year

o    Sports Producer of the Year

o    Overall Winner: SAB Sports Media Award – Radio

 

TELEVISION

o    Sports News Reporter of the Year

o    Sports Commentator of the Year

o    Sports Presenter of the Year

o    Sports Producer of the Year

o    Overall Winner: SAB Sports Media Award – Television

Chalmers continues, “In addition to these categories, we also invite nominations for ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ and editors are invited to submit their nominations for ‘Newcomer of the Year’.”

Entries open at 8am on Monday, 2nd September 2013 and close at 5pm on Friday, 4th October 2013.

Winners and runners-up will be announced at an awards ceremony on Wednesday night, 13th November 2013 at the Wanderers Club.
