EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEERS AT SAB UNITE FOR MANDELA MONTH

SAB has partnered with international hunger relief organisation Rise Against Hunger to assist their packing and distributing meals in nine cities during Mandela Month.

SAB employees around the country have provided one million meals to university students and NGOs. “Our contribution will result in 3 846 individuals receiving five meals a week for the entire year,” said Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Zoleka Lisa

Nelson Mandela International Day, celebrated globally on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, July 18, was first marked 10 years ago when the United Nations encouraged citizens all over the world to spend 67-minutes in the service of others on the new annual international day in honour of South Africa’s former president.

“These small acts of kindness are part of a global call to action that is based on the principle that every individual has the power to transform the world and make a positive impact in the communities in which they live. This principle is one which is close to the heart of SAB,” Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Zoleka Lisa said.

The project is the brewer’s biggest employee volunteerism drive in the country, with a 2019 theme of ‘The Joy of Giving Back’, the aiming was to exceed the 2018 target of 1000 volunteer employees, which has been achieved.

“Our local teams added their own flair with additional initiatives together with their selected NGOs. For example, our Egoli team created sports fields, built wooden furniture and created vegetable gardens.”
