Many people in less formal settlements are faced with daily challenges around crime. We were fortunate to have been able to assist the people of Diepsloot last week, through the Memeza Community Home Alarms Project.

Memeza is an NGO whose mission is to stop crimes against South Africa’s women. They aim to achieve this through the distribution of Memeza Personal Safety Alarms to every vulnerable girl and woman in our country. The alarms are an innovative yet cost effective solution to the crime challenges faced by ordinary citizens, especially those in less formal settlements.

Last week we donated over 800 alarm devices to the people of Diepsloot through Memeza. The donation included:

  • 84 home alarms
  • 716 personal alarms
  • CPF clothing

The alarms will not only benefit women, but all those who are identified by the CPF as more prone to crime.

A handover event took place at a the Neighbourhood Watch Hall in Extension 1, Diepsloot where the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Ms Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane received the donation on behalf of the community. Together with the SAPS and local leadership, she commended SAB for continuously supporting programmes that positively contribute towards government’s priorities and the betterment of our communities.
